Perspective starts
with honest numbers.
This atlas connects 733 entities, 761 quantities and 240 selected comparisons. Every value has a property, unit dimension, source or model, and status.
A specimen is not an average.
Defined examples choose a useful, explicit value. A 1.75 m, 70 kg human is a stable reference, not a health benchmark. A 25 m blue whale does not imply all whales are that length. Rounded landmark, geography and astronomy models are labelled as such; they are comparison anchors, not current surveys or ephemerides.
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Exact / definition / standard | An exact unit or stated nominal format. |
| Specified | A named object and a stated measurement convention. |
| Representative / approximate | A useful value selected from a variable or uncertain real-world phenomenon. |
| Example / model | An openly chosen teaching specimen. It is not an independently measured claim or population mean. |
| Theoretical | A physics scale or concept, not proof of a hard smallest or largest object. |
One scale. Preserved proportions.
Physical dimensions are stored separately from the artwork. Physical references use editorial illustrations, cropped to their visible pixels. Rulers, grids and exact measurement diagrams use procedural geometry. The remaining physical illustrations are being converted to the same style. Each illustration has content bounds, a baseline and explicit measured-span anchors. Raster image dimensions never supply a real-world measurement. A single uniform transform preserves its aspect ratio. A4 measurements stay 210 × 297 mm; circular body illustrations keep their shape. The selected marked span is calibrated. Poses, surface patterns and unmeasured details remain illustrative.
Insects use body-length anchors rather than antenna-to-wing bounding boxes. Spherical celestial-body comparisons use mean diameters, not ring diameters or distance from Earth. Quantity markers are explicitly geometric. Mass, energy, power and data are bars whose lengths encode those quantities, not literal object size.
When one thing disappears.
A true-scale view never silently enlarges the smaller object. A small ring marks its location and an independently scaled inset states its magnification. The Scale of Everything uses a labelled logarithmic coordinate; screen distance is not literal physical separation.
Area and volume
Known rectangular footprints keep both measured sides. Unknown outlines use equal-area squares, not geographic maps. Equal area is not a guarantee of packing or fit. Capacities use equal-volume cubes, while spherical planets remain spheres. Cube edges and sphere diameters grow with the cube root of volume.
Mass, weight and temperature
Weight is F = m × g in newtons. Mass remains in kilograms across worlds. An Earth-calibrated scale reading is clearly labelled and never described as a changed mass. Gas-giant “surface” gravity uses an atmospheric convention.
Kelvin, Celsius and Fahrenheit conversions include offsets. Below 0 K is rejected. Temperature comparisons use differences; no “twice as hot” claim is made from Celsius or Fahrenheit values. The Planck temperature is theoretical.
Cosmological endpoints
The Planck length is a theoretical scale, not a proven smallest possible thing. The observable universe’s approximately 92 billion light-year present comoving diameter is distinct from its approximately 13.8 billion-year age. Expansion matters. We do not claim to know the total universe’s size.
Units and precision
Conversions retain numeric precision until display. Extreme magnitudes use scientific notation and log-normalised geometry, avoiding unreadable strings of zeros. Years are Julian years of 365.25 days; months are one twelfth of that interval. Mach uses dry air at 20 °C (343 m/s). Decimal data prefixes use 1,000; binary prefixes use 1,024. Bare gallons, pints and tons require an explicit system.
Which reference comes first?
Ranking considers dimension, magnitude, familiarity, source status, illustration suitability and category variety. Selected familiar pairs introduce important things. All comparisons use the same rendering and measurement engine. The reference panel offers a wider set without overwhelming the initial result.
Sources
Source links support only the properties attributed to them. A derived or illustrative value says so in the record. Every entity page exposes its selected measurement’s source and assumptions.

How AI-assisted artwork is handled
Selected raster illustrations are created with an AI image-generation tool during editorial authoring, then reviewed for identity, anatomy, perspective, clipping and transparency. Physical measurements remain in the entity data and are calibrated to explicit image anchors. Artwork pixels never create or override a factual dimension.
Procedural diagrams are used where a ruler, grid, orbit, area, volume or abstract physical quantity communicates the measurement more honestly than an object illustration.
